[Paraview] Extent Entry

There is an extent entry widget on the properties tab of the extract grid 
filter. Where
does the extract grid filter get the min/max values to use in that widget? 
I have a
reader that works in paraview, ie I get data read in, but the min/max 
values are wrong
when I use the extract grid filter on it. I am setting all the extents I 
can find on the
output of the reader which is a structured points data set. I am using paraview
version 2.2.1. I have tried to trace through other reader code to see what 
I am
not setting but cant find any differences. Is it perhaps the case that the 
extract grid
filter gets the VOI min max values from the reader itself rather than the 
output of the
reader? Any pointers to where to look in the paraview code would be 
appreciated.
