[Paraview] compute unstructured grid normals

Hello,


I would like to gain the normals of an unstructured surface grid for
further use in the Calculator array. 
The "Normals Generation" Filter is not active, as I suppose it is ment
to deal only with poligonal meshes (builds on vtkPolyDataNormals).

So, is there a way to "convert" an unstructured surface grid to a
polygonal mesh, or is there an other way I am not aware of.
