[Paraview] Collaborative rendering

I was hoping to run ParaView in a poor-man's collaborative mode by having 
each remote user have a copy of the data source, and have a script to 
repeatedly read the other user's location and render a simple avatar.

Any ideas on how this might best be done?  A socket?  or perhaps just
http?  Might I be able to run it as a separate thread so it doesn't
interefere with user interaction in the render window?  Perhaps someone's
already coded a slick version, keeping loads of my junky, hacked code from
flooding this email list?  I'm a fair C programmer, but my Tcl-scripting's 
pretty lame.
