Summary | 0008900: Cell data on particles after glyph filter not available
Description | When you load particle data (poly or unstructured data with only vertex cells) through the glyph filter, only the point data is available on the glyphs. The cell data is missing. This is mainly a technical detail. Most of the time it does not make sense to pass the cell data because in general multiple cells contribute to each glyph. However, in the case where all the cells have exactly one point and there is a one-to-one correspondence between points and cells, it does make sense to pass this information.

I have never heard a user ask for this. Closing. If this is not the right thing to do, please reopen. |

As I recall, this came up with some data from Dale Preece of Orica Inc. |

Can't you just use the point to cell filter for this case? Also, should we reopen this one? |

Sure, and that's what I told him to do. I think eventually he changed the simulation to write out point data instead of cell data. Under most circumstances the behavior of the glyph filter makes perfect sense. It is just this one particular use where the user got confused for good reason. I think it's OK to keep this closed. This report is mostly just capturing the use case. If more particle visualization users start using ParaView and get burned by this, we can revisit it then. |
