What is the use case for this request? There was just a link given on the mailing list (http://ait.web.psi.ch/services/visualization/paraview_python.html [^]) to convert legacy VTK files to XML files that can be referenced from a pvd file.

It would be for postprocessing in parallel. Lots of people have written (distributed) data in the legacy VTK format and being able to write a small wrapper file to postprocess it in parallel would be brilliant.
