I was able to replicate with the datasets available in the link above. I tried can.exo, was not able to replicate the bug.

Linux, 4.3.1, local server.
Loaded the datasets with the visit version of the tecplot reader.
Group datasets.
Merge Blocks.

Hole between the two strips shows.

Following error shows, but the object looks OK on screen:

ERROR: In /projects/viz/paraview/src/ParaView/4.3.1/ParaView4/VTK/Common/ExecutionModel/vtkStreamingDemandDrivenPipeline.cxx, line 857
vtkStreamingDemandDrivenPipeline (0x90a29e0): The update extent specified in the information for output port 0 on algorithm vtkTrivialProducer(0x22dc530) is 0 40 0 8 0 0, which is outside the whole extent 0 28 0 8 0 0.
