Deferring to 4.3 since we have a temporary mechanism "Extract Location" as a work around.

Selection filters can do this. But don't bring back the selection inspector to allow it.

Developer note: Find data doesn't use "selection filters" directly, it uses the generic Query-based mechanisms to extract elements. In other words, FindData dialog always creates a vtkSelection of the type QUERY.
