The comment was made at LLNL that the VisIt bridge is only of interest with real problems if readers run in parallel. Rich Cook would be the person to ask what readers to make parallel.

Any reader that is parallel in VisIt is parallel in ParaView through the bridge.

Also the bridge was updated to work with modular paraview a few weeks ago in paraview master and that was tested and shown to still work in parallel, at least on a single desktop.
