    Fixed BUG 0012690. VTU filters with multiple pieces not working.
    
    The bug was introduced by fix for BUG 0012202 (SHA: 141568f1487). Changed the
    commit to use a fix that does not reintroduce the memory issue (BUG 0012202) as
    well as maintains support for multiple pieces (BUG 0012690).
